A/N: This was just a quick cute thing I wanted to write idk. Also I have no idea what to title this lol.

Evan bolted up, panting hard, already crying. He sniffed, wiping his eyes and nose with the sleeve of his blue pajamas.

He’d been having nightmares for the past three nights, and he didn’t know why. All he knew was that he hated it.

Quietly as he could, he crawled out of bed and tiptoed out into the hall of his tiny home. He tilted an ear toward his mother’s room and waited for a few seconds. No sound.

He wasn’t going to go to her room. He knew she was still very sad after his daddy left them some weeks ago, and he didn’t want to bother her. Besides, she seemed really tired after coming back from work, so she probably needed a lot of sleep tonight. He slowly made his way to the front door, and out into the giant hallway of the Kleinman household.

His eyes had already adjusted to the darkness somewhat, but that didn’t make the walk any less terrifying. He was tiny, and anything could happen as he made his way down the hall, but he pushed forward. Seven-year-olds were supposed to be brave and strong.

He finally made it to the giant bedroom. The door was closed, but he was small enough to crawl underneath and get inside. He could see the almost full moon shine through the huge window on the other side, its light landing on the lump in the crooked blanket, most of it hanging off of the side and onto the floor. He took a deep breath and climbed up. He was good at climbing, so it didn’t take too long.

He ran across the mattress and up to the sleeping figure. He went up to his face, able to feel his slow breathing as he was curled up under the part of the blanket that wasn’t hanging off the edge.

“Jared,” Evan whispered a little loudly, pushing on his nose. Jared only responded by trying to curl up more. “Jared!” Evan called out louder, pushing the tip of his nose again.

Jared opened his eyes, squinting a bit. “Evan?” he mumbled sleepily. He sat up, rubbing his eyes, though not bothering to grab his glasses from his nightstand. “Why are you here? It’s like… night time right now.”

“Well, um…” Evan played with the sleeve of his pajamas. “I just wanted… I just wanted to say hi?” He wasn’t sure how to explain his nightmare. Besides, it was just a dumb dream, right?

Jared groaned lightly, flopping back onto the pillow, Evan unable to stand from the movement and falling onto the mattress. “Couldn’t you do that in the morning?” the larger boy asked, his voice muffled as he buried his face into his pillow.

“Um, actually, no…” Evan replied, crawling a bit closer to his face. “I… I kind of had a bad dream…”

Jared looked to him, worry in his eyes. “Like… bad bad dream?” he asked with concern.

“Like scary bad dream,” Evan told him, scooting closer.

“Do you wanna talk about it?” Jared used one hand to cover Evan from behind a bit, the way both boys have seen his mother do so when calming down the smaller one.

Evan shook his head, trying to push the memory of the nightmare away. No, he’d rather not say anything about it.

“Well, you can sleep here with me if you want,” Jared offered with a small smile, his missing tooth showing. “It can be like a sleepover!”

Evan smiled, moving closer. “Yeah, I like that!” he said, lying down on his side.

Jared adjusted the blanket so that it could cover both of them as they slept. “Good night, Evan,” he said softly, closing his eyes again.

“Wait!” Evan called out.

Jared frowned, opening his eyes once more. “What is it now?” he asked, though he didn’t sound too annoyed.

“Um…” He fidgeted with his small hands, biting his lip a bit. “Thank you, for uh… for letting me sleep here and not… not thinking I’m a baby or something…”

“You’re my best friend,” Jared replied quietly. “Of course you can sleep here. Besides, you’re not a baby, ‘cause you’re smaller than a baby.”

“But there are also tiny babies that are smaller than me.”

“You’re tiny, but not a tiny baby.” Jared smiled, poking his tiny friend gently on his tiny belly.

Evan giggled from the poke, scooting closer to his friend, about an inch from Jared’s face.

The larger boy crossed his eyes a bit, trying to get a good look at Evan. “Now can we sleep? My eyes hurt doing this.”

Evan laughed. “Yeah, we can sleep now.” He curled up a bit, feeling comfort as Jared held his hand protectively over him. “Good night.”

“Good night.”

And both boys slept peacefully, until the next morning, when they both got in trouble for not telling Heidi that Evan was going to be sleeping in Jared’s room. The tiny boy made a mental note that next time he had a nightmare, he would let his mom know where he was going to go before she freaked out again.

Can you some day make a full comic or story of borrower evans first encounter? :)

Im too lazy to draw out a full comic, plus i dont have anything to draw with rn, so heres a story instead.

Silence filled the dark, empty house, the only sounds being the constant ticking of the clock. Inside the walls of the kitchen, he waited some more, straining his eyes to make out any movement. A Borrower couldn’t be too careful. What time was it? Midnight? One o’clock? Whatever the time, it was fast slipping away as morning approached.

His growling stomach reminded him he needed food as soon as possible, as he had run out in his home. It was pretty irresponsible of him, the way he waited until he had none left to borrow more food, but his fear of humans kept him from doing the rational thing. He sighed; this was why he needed Alana, as she would’ve helped him borrow some bread or something before they ran out. She was probably already seen by Zoe at this point, which meant he had to try and survive on his own again, like he did those few years after his mother died.

No longer able to ignore the aching in his stomach, he acted. He ran out, feeling very vulnerable on the tiled floor. He took a deep breath, gripping tightly his grappling hook- a long thread of string tied to a bent paperclip- before launching it up into the counter. He may be small, but he definitely has a lot of strength. He tugged on the string in his hand, testing if the paperclip latched onto the small nick he and Alana made. The string taut, he placed his feet onto the side and began to climb.

Once at the top, he ran over to the half-eaten sandwich that he knew Jared made earlier and began ripping off pieces of the bread, cheese, and ham, shoving them into his bag, some pieces finding their way into his mouth. With both his stomach and bag full, he climbed down.

As he gathered up his grappling hook, he cast a quick look over to the otherside of the kitchen. He knew Connor stored some sweets over there, somewhere where Jared couldn’t reach. Borrowers weren’t supposed to take more than they need, but a small treat couldn’t hurt, right?

As quickly and quietly as possible, he sprinted across the floor, holding his bag close.

Click!

He froze as he was momentarily blinded from the kitchen lights turning on, blinking quickly. A gasp.

His heart began pounding against his chest. Don’t look up, don’t look up… He slowly turned his head to the side, spying huge, bare feet. His heartbeat quickening, he raised his head, finding Jared Kleinman in his pajamas, staring wide-eyed at him.

He ran.

“Wait!!!”

The ground shook as he got closer. Evan forced his legs to go faster. Tears stung at his eyes, blurring his vision.

He was stopped as he ran into something. It took him only a moment to realize it was a hand, Jared’s hand. Unfortunately, that moment was all it took for Jared to completely cover him with both hands.

Evan felt his stomach lurch as he was lifted into the air. He scrambled for his needle sword, only to find he left it at home. Breathing harder, he pushed against the walls of his small prison, tears staining his cheeks.

Before he knew it, he was tumbling down, hitting his side against something hard. He sat up quickly, his eyes darting around. He could see the kitchen, he could see Jared, he could see Jared’s hands come close to him again, oh God!

He flinched, expecting to be wrapped in his fingers again. Nothing came, yet the familiar feeling of being lifted rose in his stomach. He looked down, the kitchen floor so far below. He looked up, Jared’s face too close for comfort. He let out a small yelp, instinctively scrambling backwards, before hitting the back of his head hard. His head throbbing, he realized he was trapped in a jar.

“What are you?” Jared whispered with curiosity, tilting the jar slightly this way and that, studying the small Borrower.

He didn’t seem to realize how much he frightened his catch. Evan couldn’t think. He felt like he couldn’t breathe. He felt himself shaking, his palms sweating hard. Tears poured down his face as he unconsciously attempted to scoot away. He was seen. Oh God, he was seen, he’s going to die, and he’d never see Alana again. Oh God, oh God, oh God-

Jared’s curious expression morphed into one of concern. “Shit, are you okay???” he asked sincerely. Evan left the question unanswered; he couldn’t process it to come up with even a simple reply.

After an eternity, the jar was slowly lowered to the floor, Jared gently tilting it until it was on its side. It took about a minute before Evan realized what was happening. He bolted from the jar, straight to the entrance near the refrigerator. He was fully aware of the fact he was being watched, but he didn’t care. He didn’t stop running until he reached his room, collapsing onto his matchbox bed.

He spent several minutes to catch his breath, his mouth dry and his eyes hurting from crying. He slowly looked around at his belongings that he had borrowed, feeling a lump forming in his throat. He had to leave all of it behind. He’d been seen. He couldn’t stay here anymore.

DEH Tiny AU: The Bird pt.1

Jared groaned as the sunlight from the nearby open window hit his face, he did not want to get up. Rolling over he went to pull his blankets up, his hand blindly reaching and instead he found nothing. Eyes snapping open annoyed he sat up but instead of seeing his normal sized bed sheets he sat just short of the edge of his covers. Standing up he found his feet sinking into the bed springs making him do a double take.

“What the fuck?” Panicking Jared tried walking forward only to lose his balance and fall off the edge. He closed his eyes as he screamed when he felt his coat hit something soft instead of the cold hard ground. Eyes now open he saw he landed on what looked to be someone’s hand.

“J-Jared?” Looking up Jared saw the hand belonged to now not so tiny Evan. Jared started screaming again as Evan set him down on the nearby dresser. “S-stop screaming! Please!”

“What the fuck? You’re huge!”

“And you’re tiny.”

“What happened? Why are you so…big?”

“I-I don’t know, I just w-woke up like this!” Evan played with his fingers nervously as Jared began to pace back and forth across his dresser. Jared’s phone alarm went off making both of them jump.

“We can’t go to school…like this!”

“B-but what about the test in Pre-Calc?”

“The test in…? That doesn’t matter, we need to fix this!” Jared gestured to his tiny height making Evan giggle slightly. Jared rolled his eyes when a bird came in through the window making Evan stop immediately.

“Jared, don’t move.”

“Evan it’s just a bird, now what are we-” Jared was interrupted by the feathered creature approaching him. “Woah, okay a little too close. Evan?” The other teen slowly made his way over to his friend when the bird squawked before grabbing Jared and flying out the window with the now screaming teen.

“Jared!”

aaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I LOVE THIS

Tiny!Evan One-Shot: The Collector

Sooooooo I took the drawing of Evan in a jar and made it angsty. Because honestly, I love this blog and it’s content too freaking much so I HAD to write SOMETHING for it! I guess you could say this is post-musical but I think it doesn’t really matter. Hope you enjoy 🙂 (this is my first time writing DEH)

“No matter what happens, I want you to stay close to Jared, okay?”

Evan had been told that line his whole life, and he kind of understood why. Tiny People lived in a huge dangerous world, and they needed to stay under the protection of those they could trust.

There were stories of people who captured and collected tiny people, like they were dolls or stamps. But they were only stories, right? Evan asked his mom that once, and Heidi responded that it didn’t change the fact that they had to be careful.

Big People were nice and could provide protection to Tinies, but if a Tiny came into contact with a bad Big Person, hardly any Tinies lived to tell the tale.

Evan didn’t completely ignore the stories, he kept them in mind. He knew how dangerous the world was for him; it had butterflies! Those things were terrifying! But Big People never paid attention to Evan. Sometimes he felt like Jared, Alana, and Zoe were the only kids at school who acknowledged his existence. Nothing he wasn’t used to.

Unfortunately, that made him miss the pair of eyes that was watching him as he walked along the small wall in front of school as he waited for Jared.

Evan shuffled his feet and stared absently at the blue sky above him. Jared was a little late coming out to take them home because he had to finish an assignment with Alana, and that girl loved being on top of things.

Jared described her academic side as very efficient, and almost scary when deadlines rolled around, and her scary side was a wrath that no one wanted to be subjected to, especially since Zoe had been tutoring her in the art of being legitimately angry. It was a risk Jared couldn’t take.

Evan wrung his hands, feeling a bit uneasy; school always emptied out quickly and being small and alone in a large place wasn’t exactly relaxing. Maybe Evan should have gone with Jared instead of waiting out here, but he didn’t want to be a bother to Jared and Alana.

He would be fine; it wouldn’t be much longer, even thought it was getting dark…wait, but the sky’s still blue…

Evan barely registered the shadow looming over him before he was consumed in darkness as a pair of gloved hands cupped around him, trapping him. Evan yelped and scrambled about for a moment when the hands opened.

Evan felt two fingers grab the back of his shirt, lifting him into the air. He curled into a ball as he was brought up to look at a face he had never seen before.

“Well what do you know,” The man grinned. “You’re even tinier up close.” Evan opened his mouth to say something, to call for Jared, to ask who this man was, but it only came out as a squeak.

“Pretty quiet, hm?” The man said. “Well that makes things easier.”

“U-Um…” Evan finally found his voice, his heart beating in his ears. “S-Sorry, b-but, um, c-c-could you p-please put me d-down?”

The man didn’t even acknowledge him and reached into his pocket, pulling out a tiny drawstring bag. Evan’s eyes widened as the man held the bag open with two fingers and began lowering Evan into it as all those stories of collectors rang in his head.

“No…No!” Evan began to pedal frantically in the air, “No, stop! Put me down!”

“Evan?” Evan’s heart leapt at the familiar voice and he turned to see Jared exiting the school, looking right at him.

“JARED!” Evan screamed as loud as he could. “JARED, HELP!”

Jared’s eyes widened as Evan was quickly shoved into the little bag, the strings closing it tightly. “Hey!” He yelled, jogging towards the stranger.

The man glanced at him before shoving the bag into his jacket pocket and running away.

“Get back here!” Jared broke into a run and chased the man. But it turns out, the man was fast! Jared had never really been the athletic type, so it wasn’t long before he was huffing as his breath ran out.

Jared willed himself to keep going; that guy had Evan! He couldn’t lose him, or he’d never find him again!

After a while, Jared had fallen far behind but the man was still in his sights. The man slowed to a stop and Jared quickly hid himself from view. The man glanced around before grinning; he thought he’d lost him.

Jared watched as he took the tiny bag out of his pocket and opened it slightly to peek inside. Jared clenched his fists as a twisted grin came to the man’s face before he closed the bag again. Poor Evan was probably having a breakdown in there!

Alana had told him about how she learned that Big People didn’t see Tinies as, well, people, and now Jared believed it. Jared watched as the man continued on his way, but this time at a walk. Jared carefully emerged from his hiding spot and began stealthily following him.

Chases, he was never any good at. But stealth? That, he could do. All those hours of Metal Gear Solid better not fail him now.

Evan curled into a ball as the darkness of the tiny bag seemed to close in around him. His heart was pounding and his eyes stung as tears leaked out; he had no idea where he was! What was this guy going to do to him?! No one knew what Collectors did to Tinies! Was he going to pin him to a board like an insect? Put him in a cage with other Tinies? Trap him in a dollhouse?! Evan let out a sob, burying his face in his arms; he wanted to go home. He wanted his mom, he wanted Jared; he wanted out of this bag! A second later, Evan felt the bag move immensely. He yelped as he felt himself be swung around a bit.

Light suddenly poured in as the bag was opened, making Evan cover his eyes. He shrunk away as the man grinned at him, “Welcome to your new home.”

Evan cried out as the bag was turned upside-down, giving Evan no time to grab onto something. Evan screamed as he fell, landing with a thump on his back. Evan recovered slowly and glanced around seeing that he was on a table of some kind and it looked like he was in a shed, as tools lined the walls.

Evan got up and realized his hand was on something clear and solid; he was in a jar. Evan watched in horror as the man put some plastic wrap over the opening before poking air holes in.

“Perfect.” The man purred, lifting the jar up to his face, “Another perfect specimen for my collection.”

“L-Let me out!” Evan cried, his tears now fully falling, “Please, let me out! I-I need to get home!”

The man chuckled as he stood up, placing Evan on a high shelf that was lined with other jars full of insects and small reptiles and critters. Evan flinched as the jar next to him contained a large butterfly that was flapping madly to escape, and Evan’s fear reached a breaking point.

“Let me out! Help, let me out! ” He screamed, pounding on the glass. “Mom! Jared! Someone, please, let me out!”

The man acted like he didn’t even hear him and exited the shed. “Sleep tight my lovelies.” He sneered and shut off the lights, before slamming the door, leaving a crying Evan in darkness.

Jared hid in the bushes of the small house as he peered into the man’s backyard. It had taken him the rest of the day to track the guy without getting caught, but he was finally here, and the guy had just left his shady looking shed. Evan had to be in there.

Jared waited until the guy was inside his house before crouching down and running over. Unfortunately, the door was locked.

Jared checked under the mat, but no key resided there, “Dammit, of course he’s the only guy in the world who doesn’t do that.” Jared muttered. Well, that left the windows; and they were close to the ground.

Jared tested the one right next to the door, and joy of joys, it was unlocked. Jared opened the window and wriggled inside, landing less than gracefully, but uninjured; nailed it.

Jared pulled out his phone and turned on the flashlight, “Evan?” He whisper called, his phone light illuminating the whole shed. “Ev? You in here?”

“Jared?!” Jared started at the frightened but hopeful voice.

“Evan!” Jared kept whispering. “Where are you?”

“I’m up here!” Evan cried. “I’m up here, I’m in a jar!”

Jared made his way to the table and shone his light on the shelf above it. Jared climbed onto it and came face to face with the jar that held his friend.

“Jared!” Evan cried in delight, his cheeks shiny with tears.

“Hang on, bro.” Jared grabbed the jar and climbed off the table, putting his phone down. He ripped off the plastic covering and held the jar sideways, allowing Evan to scramble out and into his free hand.

Evan clung to Jared’s fingers, his tiny body shaking like a leaf. “Hey, hey, it’s okay.” Jared said softly. He put the jar down and brought Evan to his chest, his hand covering him like a blanket, “It’s okay, just breathe, you’re fine.”

Evan took shaky breaths, letting out soft sobs every once in awhile, prompting Jared to gently rub his back.

“Man, I leave you alone for five minutes and you get stuck in a jar in some creep’s shed? I can’t believe you.” Jared couldn’t help but snipe.

Evan responded by curling into his shirt more and Jared decided now was a good time to split. It was just about nightfall judging by the pink and purple sky and their parents were going to grill them when they got home.

Jared grabbed his phone and exited the shed, holding Evan close as he ran out to the sidewalk and away from the house. He didn’t stop running until the house was out of sight.

As they walked home, Evan hadn’t moved from his position between Jared’s hands and his chest. That actually worked out for them, because the minute Jared’s parents saw Evan’s state, they locked up the lecture they had prepared and let Jared take Evan to Heidi who was waiting their living quarters.

Only when he saw her did Evan finally move. Evan just about hurled himself at Heidi, burying his face in his mom’s chest. Heidi didn’t press, she just soothed her son, stroking his hair gently. She and Jared shared a look, saying he would explain everything later.

Heidi and Evan vanished and Jared slumped on the couch. He was physically and emotionally exhausted.

Later that night as Jared got ready for bed, he spied Evan in his doorway. “What’s up?” Jared asked, kneeling and offering a hand to him.

Evan stepped into it and rubbed his arm, in his own pajamas as Jared lifted him up , “Uh, um, uh, I-I just, well, th-thank you, you know, for-for finding me.” Evan managed.

Jared smiled softly for a brief moment, “Well, of course I did; I’m the only one who’s allowed to put you in a jar.”

A small smile flashed Evan’s face, “R-Really, thank you Jared.”

“Don’t worry about it.” Jared responded, “Anything for my favorite family friend.”

“R-Right.” Evan said, staring at his feet. He still looked really shaken from today’s events and he glanced between Jared and his bed; Jared knew that look, and the question he was too afraid to ask.

Jared sighed and walked towards his bed, “You baby…” He climbed into his bed and settled on his back, placing Evan on his chest. Evan curled up and Jared covered him with his hand while his other one turned off his lamp.

Evan lay his head down, his fear being soothed by Jared’s heartbeat and the two boys slowly went to sleep.

okAY NOW YOU MADE ME FEEL BAD ABOUT DRAWING EVAN IN A JAR
